Celanese hosts military appreciation luncheon

The Celanese Bishop Plant held its 19th annual military appreciation lunch fundraiser last Thursday at the Chemcel Large Clubhouse in Bishop, raising thousands of dollars for veteran groups and charities and honoring area veterans and active duty military personnel with a barbecue meal. In addition to the meal, funds were raised through raffle drawings for prizes as well as both live and silent auctions. The Corpus Christi Veterans Band provided musical entertainment throughout the event. Jerry Martinez, a Vietnam War veteran who served in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1967-68, presented a Quilt of Honor during the luncheon to Master Gunnery Sgt. Arturo G. Garcia of Somerset, Texas. Garcia served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 25 years, from 1987-2012 and did tours in Afghanistan and Iraq.
