Christus Spohn Hospital Kleberg held its first Sunshine Awards last Thursday, recognizing non-nursing hospital support staff for outstanding patient care. Much like the quarterly DAISY Award which honors nurses, staff are nominated for the Sunshine Award by patients and patients’ families for exemplary service.

Christus Spohn Kleberg recognized 34 associates who received a cumulative total of 48 nominations for the award. Staff from Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy, Colston Wellness Gym, ED, Med Surg, ICU, Housekeeping, Dietary, Physicians, Admitting, Radiology and Cardiopulmonary were nominated.

Thursday’s award recipient was speech therapist Debra Lomas, who was nominated by a patient and his wife for the positive impact she had on their lives as she helped him regain his speech.

Honorable mentions for the Sunshine Award were Med-Surg CNA Ada Olesekiban and physical therapist Dr. Veena Akula.
