RAMON BARELA — Mayan visions join together with science and today’s changing world culture, in striking images uniquely created by Ramon Barela. This acclaimed artist’s work is currently on display in the Ben Bailey Art Gallery, on the campus of Texas A&M University-Kingsville. The public is invited to a free lecture by Barela and reception centered around his exhibit Sept. 24 at the gallery, located at 916 W. Santa Gertrudis Avenue.The lecture takes place at 2 p.m. and the artist reception at 6 p.m. The title of the Barela exhibit is “An Approach to Visually Activate the Receptive Cells of the Human System, La Re-Activacion de la Memoria Collectiva: An exhibition of recent work by Ramon Barela.” Barela completed his B.F.A. in fine arts at Texas Tech University in 1973. He recently completed his M.F.A. at the University of Texas- Pan American. Barela has been an educator for Texas public schools for 14 years and presently teaches at Harlingen High School. Pictured is his work entitled La Re- Activacion Collectiva (Collective Re-Activation).
