Boulder Project to rescue Kingsville animals from shelter

The Boulder Project continues to help Kingsville’s unwanted pups through an innovative partnership with Tip of Tex K-9 Rescue, local volunteers, and the Humane Society of Boulder Valley.

Due to low levels of animal sterilization in Kleberg County, there are thousands of unwanted animals euthanized here every year.

Boulder, Colo., has the opposite problem of not enough animals being born in the area to match demand for adoptions.

As a result, HSBV transfers thousands of animals from other areas, including Kingsville, into its shelter and helps them find forever homes.

Tip of Tex K-9 Rescue is a non-profit organization founded to help the large number of unwanted or abandoned homeless dogs in South Texas and has been involved in saving dogs from Kingsville for a number of years.

It plays an integral part in this process by transferring the dogs from the pound to its organization.

The dogs are then held in foster homes (provided by Judy Anthony, Becky Huss, and Elizabeth Radakovich) and receive vaccinations, veterinary treatment, and TLC until they are ready to be transferred to Colorado.

Dr Amy Hubert continues to be a crucial player in this rescue effort through her donation of the required health certificates so the dogs can fly onward to their new lives.

There will be 14 dogs making their way to Boulder on this trip.

Two are adult females, three are young adults, and there are nine puppies from three different litters.

Most of the dogs came from the pound in Kingsville. These dogs are all healthy and extremely adoptable.

These dogs add to the previous total of 32 dogs that were pulled from the pound or otherwise rescued through this project.

Those wishing to support this project can donate money to Tip of Texas at 1514 S. 77 Sunshine Strip, Suite 24, Harlingen TX 78550. Other acute needs include towels and crates.

To donate these items or for more information, contact Becky Huss at 592- 3989.
