A voice from “the other side of the tracks” speaks

Letter to the Editor
Editor:

After submitting my letter to the Editor, “Direction of School questioned,” (Sept. 20, 2009), I received several calls from residents, but mostly from people out of the area. They gave me so much information on this man (our superintendent) that is frightening.

There were so many stories and versions of what this man has done that I cannot at this time divulge.

The school district and school board has always urged parent involvement, but how do parents get involved when they aren’t given the opportunity to voice their opinions or comments during board meetings.

Parents attend board meetings and are told “this topic is not up for discussion.” When are they up for discussion? When they (parents) are rejected or cut off, it (their rejection) discourages them from participating in any involvement concerning the school, because they feel like it is a lost cause.

When everything is said and done, those who “run” the school have the last word. What do we do? Where do we go? Who can we turn to? So much for parent involvement!

Now, horror of horrors! This man has really gotten out of control. He put his hands on a Special Ed high school student and put him in a head lock.

What is the school board planning to do about that? This is an incident that can not be overlooked and needs immediate attention!

According to a board member, “those idiots across the tracks don’t know what they are talking about.” I am one of those idiots.

The comment was overheard after the Sept. 30, 2009 school board meeting.

Well, who are the idiots now for allowing this man on our campus and for destroying the esteem, spirit and tranquility of our community, and especially our students.

May the School Board have the good sense to do the right thing for our students. They are first and foremost.

Thank you, Zulema Longoria
