Father knows best F-words

By Rey Sifuentes Jr.

So here is what happened two Friday nights ago. A local high school varsity football team - who will remain anonymous - is having a ‘Momma said there would be days like this’ game and getting run over by their opponents in front of the hometown crowd. No one rooting for them is happy. Not the players, coaches, the parents, cheerleaders, etc.

In an attempt to keep the mood festive, the local head high school band director decides to get his group playing. Trying to liven things up, he may not have realized that his school’s football team had the ball on offense and that the tunes may disrupt them.

What he also does not know is that one of those offensive players has a father sitting in the bleachers who is already mightily mad because his son’s team is losing big in front of family and friends. We’ll call this guy Mr. F-word.

Mr. F-word gets up and walks over to speak with the head band director. Does Mr. F-word ask to speak to the head band director in private while the assistant band directors watch the group? No. Does Mr. F-word whisper his complaint so that only the head band director hears it and can then maybe accommodate him. No.

Instead, here is what Mr. F-word did. He unloads a shouting barrage which includes several obscenities including - believe it or not - the F-word IN FRONT OF THE BAND KIDS AND ANYONE ELSE IN HEARING DISTANCE.

Mr. F-word even went as far as to flip off the head band director and make several other obscene gestures while the music teacher calmly kept his composure and did his job.

Keep in mind that this local high school is located in a school district where many politicians and school administrators are fighting what they consistently say is a false negative image. Also, when a kid sees an adult go way out of line - like Mr. F-word - they start to wonder ‘Well if mommy and daddy don’t behave and follow the rules, why should I’.

Mr. F-word, people like you are what give the rest of US a bad name. There are civilized ways of handling situations but you chose IDIOTIC. If the high school marching band’s playing was bothering the football team, let the coaches deal with it. Momma always said, stupid is as stupid does.
