Lucio speaker A&I Lunch
Sen. Eddie Lucio
Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr. will be the keynote speaker and guest of honor at the inaugural Homecoming luncheon of the newly reformed Texas A&I Alumni Association on Saturday, Oct. 24.
The luncheon will be held at the new Kingsville Center, 105 S. US 77, beginning at 11:30 a.m.
All Texas A&I alumni and friends are invited to reserve a spot by using the interactive website: TEXASA&IUNIVERSITY. com.
Lucio is a Texas A&I alum and was a letterman on the Javelina golf team in the 1960s. His state senatorial district includes Kleberg County.
He authored S.B. 2376 during the last session of the Texas Legislature which sought to restore the traditional name of Texas A&I University to the campus in Kingsville. His bill received unanimous support in the Senate and the House Higher Education Committee before being stalled in the closing days of the session in the House Calendars Committee.
“If you believe as we do that the “experiment” to force the A&M name on our alma mater has been a failure, we invite you to join our cause,” stated organizer and longtime Kingsville businessman, Dick Watson, Class of 1961.
Watson continued, “Very few people know that the taxpayers of Kingsville and Kleberg County paid $70,000 last year to hire a lobbyist to fight our very own Texas A&M System over their attempted poaching of our College of Engineering by the Corpus Christi campus.”
Waston went on to say, “How we can remain in a System which is systematically undermining our campus is beyond me.”
A update of the upcoming activities of the Texas A&I Alumni Association will be provided including a sneak preview of the opening of the new Texas A&I Alumni Center across from Javelina Stadium.
