Badger game statistics versus Longhorns posted
The Bishop Badgers lost 41-15 in a game played this past Friday against the Hebbronville Longhorns in Hebbronville.
The Badgers once again led in time of possession, controlling the ball for 27:16 while the Longhorns had it for 20:44 in the game.
Bishop collected 12 first downs to Hebbronville’s 17.
The Badger offense gained 326 net yards on 42 plays, compared to the Longhorn’s 447 yards on 42 plays.
On offense, senior fullback Zack Lowman rushed for 163 yards on 18 carries, while fellow senior running back J.P. Escobar added 135 yards on only six carries including an 87 yard touchdown run down the sideline in the second quarter of the game. The other Bishop score was by sophomore quarterback Alan Scott on a one yard keeper in the fourth quarter.
Sophomore running back Jacob Beltran successfully rushed into the end zone for the two-point conversion.
In the air, the Badgers completed one pass attempt for minus three yards on the night.
On defense, senior linebacker Tommy Cavazos picked up eight tackles (5 solo, 6 assisted).
Also contributing on defense was Beltran with six tackles (5 solo, 2 assisted) and Rick Gutierrez with three solo tackles in the game.
The Badger special teams involved Cavazos punting four times for 83 yards, longest being a 30 yard punt.
Senior kick returner David Herrera picked up 41 yards on four returns and Beltran had 44 yards on two returns.
Offensive player of the week honors goes to senior running back J.P.
Escobar for his 135 yards on six carries, including the 87 yard touchdown run in the second quarter.
Defensive player of the week recognition goes to senior linebacker Tommy Cavazos for leading the Badger “D” with eight tackles in a hard fought battle with the Longhorns. The Badgers look to bounce back, hosting San Diego at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 23 at Ed Gorny Stadium in Bishop.
