Faith in the sheriff

Editor:

Indeed, many questions remain unanswered as to how Rafael Ortega escaped from custody on Monday.

However, I disagree with the statements made in Sunday’s paper.

Sheriff Ed Mata and his staff are obviously working hard on this investigation and may not have the time to answer questions from the media.

I honestly doubt that the sheriff’s department is avoiding any questions that the media may have.

An incident such as Ortega’s escape takes time to do a proper and thorough investigation.

I trust that the sheriff’s department is going to complete this investigation successfully and prevent any further incidents.

I agree with Chief Gonzalez’ statement, “Our detention officer’s take their job very seriously and are extremely determined.”

Unfortunately, incidents such as the escape happen and the finger is pointed immediately at the officers on duty.

Until the investigation is complete, no one other than the escapee should be blamed or frowned upon.

I can think of a handful of things that could have gone wrong that day.

It may not be entirely be the fault of the sheriff’s department. Please be patient and let the sheriff’s department complete their investigation.

Once the investigation is complete, I am sure a more detailed statement will be released.

I would assume that some findings may not be made public due to certain policies.

Yes, an inmate did escape from custody; however he was taken into custody shortly after.

We should be proud of our law enforcement officer’s.

The city of Kingsville is safe again thanks to the efforts of our law enforcement officer’s.

A proud Kingsville citizen,

Marcella Gonzales
