Local hunters go on Exotic Trophy Ram Hunt

Bring home three trophies in one day

GOLD MEDAL TROPHY WINNER ...Gus Carrales III of Kingsville GOLD MEDAL TROPHY WINNER ...Gus Carrales III of Kingsville Three avid hunters, Darrell Munoz Sr., son Darrell Munoz Jr., both of Ricardo, and friend of the family Gus Carrales III of Kingsville, son of Blinda and Gus Carrales Jr. of Kingsville, were invited to the Hill Country in Barksdale on an Exotic Trophy Ram Hunt on the weekend of Oct. 23.

Darrell Munoz Sr. shot a management Texas Dall with his 243 Browning and within the hour Darrell Munoz Jr. shot a Silver Medal Texas Dall Ram which scored 89 3/8’s and was shot with his 243 Browning.

Later that afternoon, Carrales took down a Gold Medal Pointed Desert Ram which scored 102 3/8’s and was shot with his 7mm Mauser Ruger style rifle.

Each of the three rams were persued heavily and were taken at a range between 60 to 85 yards.

In order for rams to be gold it has to be over 94. Darrell Munoz Sr. almost made Bronze but Darrell Munoz Jr. was a few inches shy of being a Gold Medal Winner as well. Carrales was on the Trophy Ram Hunt for his 21st birthday present.
