Light voters turnout approves state amendments and JP Pct. 1 liquor
Kleberg County voters joined the
rest of Texas in approving a series
of constitutional amendments that
ranged from expanded research dollars
for universities to a funding method
for more veterans hospitals in Texas
and guarantees that peoples property
could not be seized b eminent domain
for purely economic development
reasons.
Only 1,035 voters turned out for
Tuesday’s state constitutional
amendments election, representing 5.8
percent of the county’s 17,724 eligible
voters.
Voters in Jutice of the Peace Precinct
1 approved of mixed alcoholic
beverages and the sale of wine and
hard liquor. The other three precincts
approved the optional liquor sales
election almost 30 years ago.
The vote was 287 in favor and 81 against the measure. Results of the state consti-tutional amendments election and liquor election will be in the Sunday edition.
