The Kleberg County Sheriff’s Mounted Patrol helped kick off the local U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots Campaign in a big way, with the presentation of a $ 1,000 donation.
The funds came primarily from the Patrol’s annual King Ranch Trail Ride, a 2-day event held each March on the historic King Ranch.
Thousands of horseback riding enthusiasts attend the annual event, proceeds of which help to support a number of worthy causes in the community.
The Mounted Patrol is an all-volunteer, civilian group of equestrian lovers who enjoy riding horses in a variety of settings including parades, search and rescue operations, and general patrolling duties.
While they are not deputized, the Patrol can be seen at numerous events and activities throughout the area in which their objective is to maintain order and insure safety.
“The Patrol has supported Toys for Tots for a number of years now,” Bob Linton, the organization’s Captain said. “We are happy to be able to provide Toys for Tots with these funds, especially since we know the money we donate will stay right here in our own backyard to help local less fortunate families,” Linton said.
“The Patrol’s monetary donation each year has been a significant part of our local fund-raising efforts,” said Lisa Bockholt, coordinator.
“This kind of donation truly insures we can meet the needs of all those that apply for assistance,” Bockholt said.
Applications for the areas less fortunate families are available at the Texas Dept. of Health & Human Services offices on Corral Street, as well as through the local Sheriff’s and Police Stations. Deadline to apply is Dec. 11.
Toy and monetary donations will be accepted at Stop-n-Lube Quick Oil Change & Car Care Center through Dec. 15.
