Student breaks reading record

Amanda Bray Amanda Bray In just a nine week period, Driscoll ISD seventh grade student Amanda Bray scored more points in the Accelerated Reader Program than any student in Driscoll history.

When it comes to the Accelerated Reader program in use at Driscoll ISD, most students are happy to meet their weekly point goal, achieved by passing tests based on novels and books read.

However, that wasn’t enough for one Driscoll student, 7th grader Amanda Bray. While it is a high achievement for a student to amass 200 AR points in an entire school year, Amanda has already topped that goal...in the first nine weeks of school.

Attaining an accomplishment of that magnitude requires some sacrifice and determination, both of which abound in Amanda’s academic life. “I rarely watch TV,’ commented the honor student. “I prefer reading.” Amanda has already earned the highest prize yet available for AR points: an end of year trip to Gattitown.

Teachers are already working on a new tier of rewards for Amanda and other students who follow in her footsteps. “We are delighted to have a student make such a significant step so early in the school year,” Principal Lynn Landenberger said. “We hope all our students will see it is possible to achieve difficult things with the right attitude. We believe Amanda is a wonderful role model for us all.”
