Thanks for literacy support
As the Executive Director of the Kleberg County Adult Literacy Council, I would like to say thank you to those businesses that truly support the efforts of KCALC in providing a more literate society. KCALC is a non-profit, depending solely on the kindness of this community through volunteers and funds. We provide services for 75 to 100 adults every year, essentially impacting close to one hundred families in the Kleberg-Kenedy County community. All literacy services are provided to our students FREE of charge, and KCALC could not do this without the support of local foundations, local businesses, civic groups, and an annual fund raiser.
KCALC is fortunate to be housed in the RJ Kleberg Library, where Director, Robert Rodriguez, and his staff, whole heartedly support our mission and are ready and willing to help anyway possible.
Our largest annual contributor is the King Ranch Family Trust. In addition, the Coastal Bend Community Foundation, Walmart Literacy Foundation, Dollar General Literacy Foundation, A.C. and Addie Brookshire Foundation, and the RJ and Helen Kleberg Foundation are some of the local organizations that have supported us through our twenty-three year existence.
These are very difficult times for everyone, and nonprofits have been hit hard. Preparing for the annual Dottie Adams Memorial Golf Tournament was a scary feat, yet I was pleasantly surprised by the many local businesses that chose to support our tournament. HEB was a silver sponsor this year donating $500. Our hole sponsors were: IBC Bank, First Community Bank, Bank of South Texas, Kleberg Bank, Mike Shaw Toyota, Tractor Supply, Coldwell Banker-Ricki Cunningham, Valero, Rudy Galvan Paint and Body Collision Center, Ditrol, Coastal Bend College, FLAIR-Woman’s Club of Kingsville, and Gaffey Cranes-Russell Nix. In addition, McFall Chapel donated $500, while Chili’s, Young’s, Cherry Tree Tea Room, Whataburger, and Big House Burgers provided gift certificates and/or goods, which served as team prizes.
This is a great community! So a great big thank you goes to those foundations, business, and civic organizations that invest in the future of this community. After all…..Being Literate Makes Cents! An investment from which we all will benefit!
Sincerely, Carla E. Adams Meyer, ED
