Where’s the chief when you need him
Friday, Oct. 23, at approximately 2:40 a.m. I, a citizen of Kingsville, was traveling north in the 500 block of North Third Street approaching the intersection of North Third and West Richard Avenue (east and westbound stop signs only).
My intention was to turn west onto the 400 block of West Richard Avenue.
I activated the turn signal switch of my vehicle approximately 1/2 a block away. As I approached the intersection I began to yield as another vehicle was traveling south in the 600 block of North Third Street, approaching the same intersection.
The other vehicle was slowing down as it approached the intersection.
The vehicle wasn’t indicating a turn so it was thought that the vehicle was apparently continuing south onto the 500 block of North Third Street.
The other vehicle nearly came to a stop at the intersection before it indicated a left turn (east) onto the 300 block of West Richard Avenue.
Mind you, this was in the early morning hours in a residential neighborhood with no other traffic for probably several blocks, except for me.
As the other vehicle turned it was observed as being one of Kingsville’s finest (police officers). The vehicle was one of the new Dodge Chargers.
Thursday, Oct. 22, at approximately 4:50 a.m., my wife took off from our residence in the 500 block of West Richard Avenue.
One of Kingsville’s finest, out of nowhere, fell in behind the car my wife was driving and eventually pulled her over on the 300 block on North Third Street as she was traveling south on her way to take our daughter to work.
The reason given for the stop was that no turn signal was given at least one turn, this being the intersection of North Third and West Richard Avenue.
This was the same intersection where a day later one of Kingsville’s finest basically did the same thing where another vehicle was actually present.
My wife received a citation for the violation. What about the Police Officer in the other incident?
Mind you again, this was in the later early morning hours, on a middle of the week day, in the same residential neighborhood with probably no other vehicle traffic for several blocks.
My wife was identified and hadn’t been drinking and driving.
Have the officers lost their sense of discretion or are there some of them trying to make a name for themselves?
Remember that you are here to serve and protect, not to oppress.
I wish I would have been the one to have pulled over and cited so I, as another citizen recently did, would have called the Chief of Police so he and other city officials could have come to my rescue.
