LADY BRAHMAS COMPETE AT TOURNAMENT

H.M. King High School’s varsity basketball team competed at a tournament hosted by Santa Gertrudis Kingsville Academy this past weekend.

The Lady Brahmas kicked things off by beating Refugio 54- 46 in their opening contest. Scoring for the Lady Brahmas were Jasmine Richardson (15), Leila Barrera (12), Hannah Peterson (nine), Kaylie Hahn (eight), Kylie Cranfill (eight) and Ashley Martinez (two)

Things did not go so well for H.M. King after that as the Lady Bulls lost to Ingleside 24-54 in their second game. Peterson scored five points, Richardson tallied four, Veronica Garcia chipped in two, Hahn had six, Tayla Holliday notched one, Martinez scored two and Cranfill collected four.

H.M. King rebounded and won their next game 52-35 over Hebbronville. Peterson amassed 12 points, Hahn scored 11, Barrera tallied seven, Holliday notched six, Richardson contributed four, Garcia put up four, Sara Zarate contributed four, and Martinez and Cranfill each scored two.

The Lady Brahmas won their final tournament game 69-45 against Harvest Academy. Hahn led her team with 24 points, Richardson followed with 18, Peterson tallied 12, Holliday collected eight, Barrera scored four and Zarate kicked in two.

LADY SEAHAWKS COMPETE AT TOURNAMENT

Riviera-Kaufer High School’s varsity girls basketball team competed at a tournament hosted by Santa Gertrudis Kingsville Academy this past weekend.

The Lady Seahawks lost their opening game to San Perlita 44-24. Kaufer was shutout in the first quarter, scored 13 points in the second, four in the third and seven in the final period. San Perlita tallied 11, 11, eight and 14.

Scoring for the Lady Seahawks were Sharla Irby (5) Clarissa Arguijo (4), Kiersten Bohanan (4), Rachel Davis (4), Alyssa Alarcon (3), Rachel Robinson (2) and Shelby McFall (2)

Kaufer rebounded and thumped Donna Idea Academy 34-9 in their following contest. The lady water-birds scored seven points in the opening period, another seven in the second, four in the third and 16 in the final period. DIA mustered only four points in the first quarter, five in the second and were shutout in the second half.

Kaufer kept the momentum going by downing San Isidro 28- 18 in their next game. The Lady Seahawks tallied five points in the first quarter, five in the second, 12 in the third and six in the fourth. San Isidro struggled only scoring five, one, six and six.

Scoring for Kaufer were Robsinon (9), Irby (8), Alarcon (5), Arguijo (4) and McFall (2)

The Lady Seahawks lost in overtime of the consolation game 30-29 to Benavides. Kaufer notched three points in the opening quarter, seven in the second, six in the third, 11 in the fourth and two in overtime. Alarcon scored 10 points, McFall had eight, Arguijo contributed four, Robinson collected four, Irby chipped in two and Bohanan scored one.

BRAHMAS IN ACTION THIS WEEKEND

H.M. King High School’s varsity, junior varsity and freshman boys basketball teams visit Corpus Christi Miller at 12 p.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday.
