Dionicio P. Mendietta Sr. Dionicio “Nicho” P. Mendietta Sr., 76, of Kingsville, died Dec. 2, 2009, in Kingsville.

He was born on Jan. 8, 1933, in Kleberg County, to Martin Mendietta Sr. and Rosaura Pena Mendietta.

Mendietta was born and raised on the King Ranch.

He was employed with Civil Service in Corpus Christi, until his retirement.

Mendietta was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Lilia L. Mendietta of Kingsville; three sons, Dionicio (Blanca) Mendietta Jr. and Daniel (Sandra) Mendietta, both of Kingsville, and David Mendietta of San Antonio; daughter, Mary Elizabeth Mendietta of San Antonio; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A rosary was recited Dec. 3 at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Dec. 4 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Romeo Salinas as celebrant.

Burial with full military honors provided by the Veterans of Kleberg County Military Funeral Detail followed at Chamberlain Cemetery in Kingsville.
