Mario Delgado announces candidacy

Mario Delgado Mario Delgado Precint 2 Justice of the Peace Mario Delgado said today he will seek another term of office in the March 2010 Democratic Primary Election.

Delgado has served as Precinct 2 JP for the past 15 years.

“I feel honored that for the past 15 years the residents of Precinct 2 have placed their trust in me as their justice of the peace,” he said.

“It is my belief that these years of judicial experience, along with my other diverse work experience, makes me a viable candidate for reelection.”

Delgado has worked for the Kingsville Independent School District as a teacher, elementary counselor, high school counselor and coordinator of special projects.

He has also served as the executive director for the Kleberg County Community Action Committee on the war on poverty where he prepared applications and wrote grant proposals, which resulted in the first Office of Economic Grants for program development for Kleberg County.

“Under this grant I introduced the following antipoverty programs: Medicare Alert, Project Find, Neighborhood Service Centers, Summer Headstart, Summer Employment, Summer Recreation, Manpower Development Training, Neighborhood Youth Corp, Job Corp, Adult Basic Education, Work Experience, Citizenship Classes, Meals on Wheels, GED Classes, and later I implemented Upward Bound at Texas A&I University,” Delgado said.

“I also wrote and introduced the grant that allowed for Communities in Schools to become part of KISD and had the privilege to serve as its first Executive Director,” he said.

Delgado received both his BS and MS degrees in Education from Texas A&I University after returning from serving in the Air Force during the Korean War.

“I was initially trained as a clerk typist where I was the honor student of my class and was later transferred and trained as an interpreter for the Foreign Liaison Spanish Division,” he said.

“I served as an interpreter for pilots from South and Central America and Spain, who were sent to the U.S. by their countries to be trained as jet pilots,” Delgado said.

“After my term of service in the USAF, I was honorably discharged so I returned home to Kingsville and enrolled at Texas A&I University,” Delgado said.

Delgado’s military career continued when he joined the Navy Reserve where he served as a Navy chief in the Navy Investigative Service (NIS) and was later transferred to Navy Intelligence.

“I served 26 years in these two military departments where I received both law enforcement and intelligence training,” Delgado said.

Delgado stated that his judicial philosophy is simple.

“I follow the rules, obey the law, and there is no politics in my court,” he said. “I respectfully ask for your vote and continued support.”
