Three Javelinas chosen to play in 2010 Cactus Bowl
The Texas A&MKingsville football team had three seniors; Billy Garza, Jorge Guerra and Jimmy Saddler-McQueen, selected to play in the 2010 Cactus Bowl that kicks off at 6:35 p.m. on January 8 at Javelina Stadium.
Garza, a 6-1, 235-pound quarterback from Brownsville, Texas, earned Second Team Lone Star Conference South Division
honors and was a Harlon
Hill Regional Finalist this

year. In two seasons, he

guided the Javelinas to a

16-7 record and a Lone Star
Conference championship. He went 225-for-370 passing for 2,711 yards and 17 touchdowns this year. He holds school records for most completions in a game (31), most completions in a season (225), most completions in a career (434), most passing attempts in a season (370), most 300-yard passing games in a season (5), most 300-yard passing games in a career (9), most passing yards per game for a career (239.0), most total offense per game for a career (253.2), completions per game for a career (18.9) and passing attempts per game for a career (32.2). Guerra, a 6-3, 302-pound left tackle from Roma, Texas, earned Second Team Lone Star Conference South Division, Second Team Daktronics Super Region Four, First Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI and LSC All-Academic Team honors this year. He started all 45 games of his career and was a dominating force this year grading out as the team’s top blocker at 91 percent.
Saddler-McQueen, a 6-3, 296-pound defensive tackle from Houston, Texas earned Honorable Mention Lone Star Conference South Division honors. He was tabbed as the 2009 D2Football.com Lone Star Conference Preseason Defensive Player of the Year after earning LSC South Co- Defensive Lineman of the Year honors in 2008.
Injuries slowed down the preseason all-American who was a key reason why the Javelinas did not allow more than 20 points in a game through the first six games of the year.
After an injury early in the seventh game of the year, the team allowed more than 31 points in each of their remaining six games.
The Cactus Bowl is an NCAA Division II All-Star game that is in its 16th year.
The game was originally called the Snow Bowl and played in Fargo, North Dakota, but was moved to Kingsville, Texas in 2001.
All net profits from the Cactus Bowl are donated to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
