Tom Salazar Jr.
Tom Salazar Jr., age 78, a resident of Kingsville, Texas passed away Saturday, January 2, 2010 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born on January 11, 1931 in Kingsville to Tomas Salazar Sr. and Elnora Agnes Gaines Salazar. Mr. Salazar worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for forty-two years until his retirement. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ofelia Salazar of Kingsville; six children, Debbie (Oscar) Pena of League City, Texas, Rose Bruce, Lilly (Rene) Morales, Ollie (Sally) Salazar, Viola (Ron) Stallings and Charlene Salazar, all of Corpus Christi, Texas. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Samuel Salazar on May 14, 1994. Mr. Salazar is also survived by two sisters, Doris Guerrero of Kingsville and Mary Jane Rios of Houston, Texas; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation took place on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel with a praise and worship service held from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at the Turcotte- Piper Mortuary Chapel with Ollie Salazar officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by the Veterans of Kleberg County Military Funeral Detail will follow in Kingsville at Chamberlain Cemetery.
With a true servant’s heart, he touched many people’s lives in so many ways and was always willing to share what he had with those who were in need. He was known for never wanting to say “goodbye,” but preferred to say, “I’ll see you later.” His family knows that they will be together again.
