Diego Vaqueros 60-52
The Bishop Badgers varsity boys basketball squad traveled to San Diego to face the Vaqueros in a district contest this past Tuesday.
The Badgers entered the game with a 9-8 overall record and 1-0 in district.
The game was very competitive, but the Badgers were able to pull ahead in the final period to bring home the 60-52 victory and remain undefeated in district play.
Bishop was led by senior A.J. Gaona with 16 points, 11 rebounds, four blocks and four assists.
Junior Dave Gonzalez contributed 14 points, four assists, three steals and two rebounds while sophomore Jacob Beltran tacked on 11 points, three steals and three rebounds.
Also assisting in the winning effort were senior Grant Michalk with seven points, seven rebounds and two blocks; junior Johnathan Villarreal with six points, four rebounds, two steals, two blocks and two assists; junior Brandon Haddy with four points and one rebound; senior Jacob Ortegon with two points, two rebounds, two steals and one block; junior Robert Gaona with five rebounds and junior Daniel Hinojosa with two steals and one rebound.
The Badgers were scheduled to host the Hebbronville Longhorns at 5 p.m., Friday, Jan. 8 in Bishop.
Freshman and JV
squads lose to Vaqueros
The Bishop Badgers freshman team lost to the San Diego Vaqueros 35-17 this past Tuesday.
The Badgers were led by Robert Olivarez with 11 points, followed by A.J. Alvarez, Noel Luna and Zach Gonzales with two points each.
Meanwhile, the junior varsity Badgers fell short 49- 32 to the Vaqueros.
Sophomore Leo Carmona led the squad with 11 points, while sophomore Dillon Garcia added nine in the hard fought battle.
Also contributing were freshman Justin Lira with six, sophomores Alan Scott and Edmund Colin with three points each.
Lady Badgers rope
Lady Vaqueros 40-34
The Lady Badgers girls varsity basketball team beat the San Diego Lady Vaqueros 40-34 this past Tuesday in Bishop.
The Lady Badgers remained undefeated in district, moving the record to 4-0.
Bishop was led by Kasey Cavazos with 19 points, seven steals, four assists and two rebounds.
Also contributing to the winning effort were Brianne Vincent with nine points, five rebounds and one block; Aricela Alvarez with eight points, five rebounds, two steals, one assist, and one block; Rina Riviera with two points, seven rebounds, two blocks and one steal; Coralie Saenz with two points, two rebounds and one steal; Kelsey Hayes with three rebounds, one block and one steal; Tori Geryk and Meagan Sandoval with two rebounds each and Andriah Scott with one rebound.
The Lady Badgers were scheduled to play Hebbronville this past Friday, game statistics not available at time of printing.
JV Lady Badgers
earn 31-18 victory
The Lady Badgers junior varsity squad beat the San Diego Lady Vaqueros JV team 31-18 this past Tuesday in Bishop.
The Lady Badgers JV moved their district record to 3-0 with the win.
Bishop was led by Tessa Miller with 10 points, followed by Bianca Silva with six points.
Also scoring in the game are as follows: Bianca Reyna with four, Alex Sanchez with four, Barbara Escobar, Jennifer Simon and Celina Pecos with two points each and Jaycee Cronk with one point in the win.
