Wesley, Winborn named all-region
Don Hansen’s Football Gazette released its 2009 NCAA Division II All-Super Region Four squad today. Texas A&M-Kingsville had senior left guard Markeith Wesley (Navasota/Navasota HS) named to the First Team and junior running back Fred “Hollywood” Winborn (N. Hollywood, CA/Grant HS) was named to the Second Team.
Wesley, a Kinesiology major, is one of the top offensive lineman in the country. This is the second year he has been named to the Football Gazette All- Region team. He was a Third Team selection in 2008. He was a key member of the top two passing offenses in school history. He was named First Team Lone Star Conference South Division and Daktronics All-Super Region Four.
Winborn, a Sociology major, is earning his second all-region honor this season. He was also named First Team LSC South Division and Daktronics All-Super Region Four. He led the LSC with 1,295 yards rushing while scoring 19 total touchdowns. He rushed for over 100 yards on five occasions and twice went over 200 yards. He set a school record with 263 yards against Eastern New Mexico. He rushed for 223 yards and four touchdowns in an overtime loss against Tarleton State in the first round of the NCAA Division II Playoffs.
