POWERLIFTING
H.M. King High School Sophomore Javi Rojas placed fifth in the 165 lb. division of a powerlifting meet held at Tuloso-Midway this past weekend. Rojas squatted 400 pounds, bench pressed 250, and dead-lifted 470 for a sum of 1,120. Head Coach Sam Callis said Rojas could advance to the regional meet - later this year - if he improves in the squat and bench press. Rojas’ deadlift total at the T.M. meet surpassed that of two-time state finalist Mark Cortez.

H.M. King High School’s varsity and junior varsity boys basketball teams visit Laredo Cigarroa at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
The Lady Brahma varsity and junior varsity basketball teams host Laredo Cigarroa at 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday.
Memorial Middle School’s 7A, 7B, 8A and 8B girls basketball teams host Rockport-Fulton at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Thursday (January 21). Memorial’s 7A, 7B, 8A and 8B boys basketball teams visit Rockport-Fulton at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Wednesday (January 20).

Bishop High School’s varsity, junior varsity and freshman boys basketball teams visit Riviera-Kaufer at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

TRYOUTS
The Corpus Christi Hammerheads arena football team will hold open tryouts at West Oso High School (5202 Bear Lane) this Saturday, January 23. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. and tryouts will commence at 11 a.m.
Participants will be tested in the 40-yard dash, short shuttle, broad jump, agility, and individual drills. All participants must sign a waiver prior to participating in the tryout. The surface area used for all of the testing will be grass.
Athletes can pre-register for $50 by cash, money order, credit card or personal check and payment can be made at the Hammerhead offices (4535 SPID, Suite #30). Participants registering the day of the open tryout will pay $60 by cash, money order or personal check.
