Kingsville Independent School District parents who want to know what their children are learning in school can now access an Internet link that will report on the curriculum used in a specific class.

KISD uses the CSCOPE curriculum district wide.

“What we know from educational research is that the best school districts in the nation nurture the relationship between the school and home by involving and informing parents on the taught curriculum,” stated Jennifer Kent, KISD Chief Academic Officer.

The curriculum portal will provide immediate access to the subject skills and concepts their children are learning.

“Instead of asking ‘how was school today,” Kent said, “parents will be able to ask specific questions that extend the learning environment to the home.”

For example, a parent who has a child in the third grade can find out what is being taught in science the fourth six weeks,” said Kent. “They would be learning about matter and energy and how the earth is changing.

KISD principals have expressed their reaction to this new KISD Internet service provided to the parents that began last week.

“The parents at Perez are amazing and give their best efforts to be involved in their children’s education. The curriculum link is one more parent tool we can provide as we work together diligently to move from a Recognized to Exemplary campus,” said Melba Franco, Jesus R. Perez Elementary School principal.

Parents can access the district’s website by going to www.kingsvilleisd.com and click on “CSCOPE Parent Portal.”

Parents can also check their children’s grades through the district grade portal.
