Tara Rios Ybarra Selected to Serve on House Select Committee

Texas House Speaker Joe Straus (R-San Antonio) said he has appointed State Rep. Tara Rios Ybarra to the House Select Committee on Federal Legislation.

The Committee will closely monitor significant pending federal legislation with specific emphasis on health care reform efforts. The committee will also work to improve the exchange of information between Texas and Washington, D.C., by communicating the impact of pending federal legislation to the state economy and citizens.

State Rep. Tara Rios Ybarra said she was honored that Speaker Straus had selected her to serve on this important committee.

“One of the most pressing issues in my district is health care. It is an honor to have a seat at the table to ensure South Texas has a voice.” Rios ybarra said.

Straus said he had serious concerns regarding the impact of federal legislation on the state and that he had charged the Committee to help the House respond in a fiscally appropriate manner regarding Texas’ specific needs and challenges. State Rep. John Zerwas, R-Richmond will chair the committee which includes seven Democrats and seven Republicans.
