Lady Badger basketball teams to participate in Hoops for Hope

By Fred Salinas Sports Correspondent

Did you know that one in seven women either has or will develop breast cancer in their lifetime?

That woman could be your mother, sister, daughter, wife, friend, teacher or coach. Chances are that you know someone who has battled or is currently fighting cancer.

“Hoops for Hope is a basketball game centered around hope; hope for early detection, hope for increased survival and hope for a cure,” Bishop Lady Badgers Head Coach Sherry Wilson said.

District 32-2A girls basketball is hosting ‘Hoops for Hope’ at their games on Tuesday, Feb. 2 and Friday, Feb. 5. Schools in District 32-2A participating are Bishop, Donna IDEA, Hebbronville, Premont, Riviera, San Diego, and Santa Rosa.

Players will use a pink basketball and referees will use pink whistles in honor and memory of those affected by cancer. Donations will be accepted during the game with the proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.

The Bishop Lady Badgers junior varsity and varsity teams will host Hoops for Hope starting at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 2 with a game against the Hebbronville Lady Longhorns in Bishop.

The Lady Badgers would like to invite the community to this worthy effort.
