FLAIR department holds first meeting of the year
The FLAIR department of the Woman’s Club of Kingsville started off the new year with their monthly meeting held on Jan. 19 at the Helen Kleberg Community Center.
Sue Miller, chairman, called the meeting to order at noon.
The guest speaker was John Hubert, District Attorney for Kleberg County.
During his informative speech, Hubert explained how asset forfeitures from money laundering cases have financed the renovations of the DA office, funded educational seminars for local law enforcement members and purchased vehicles for use by local officials.
In appreciation for his speaking with the department, FLAIR made a contribution to the Woman’s Shelter.
During the business portion of the meeting, reports were given by different committees.
Melba Gafford stated that she had mailed 100 bags, gowns and quilts for Operation Smile.
It was decided that a contribution to the relief of the earthquake victims in Haiti should be made.
A nominating committee was formed to seek members willing to serve on the FLAIR board when the current boards term is up this spring.
FLAIR has for the third straight year sponsored Poetry and Short Story Contest for area school children and adults.
A reception honoring the winners will be held on Feb. 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the Helen Kleberg Community Center.
The winners and their guests will be served refreshments and will albo be reading their entries to the group.
FLAIR will have their next meeting at noon on Tuesday, Feb. 16 at the HKCC building.
Lunch will be provided at a cost of $8. The theme will be “Heart Health.”
