BHS DECA members advance to state

Eighteen members of the Bishop High School marketing association, DECA, participated in the District I DECA Career Development Conference on Jan. 22 in Edinburg.
The senior marketing students competed in various marketing competitive events that tested the student’s competency levels in specific marketing categories.
The following students placed in the top five positions in their respective area in order to qualify for the 61st Annual DECA State Career Development Conference:
• Elisa Kelley - Apparel and Accessories Individual Series Event
• Erica Garcia - Accounting Individual Series Event
• Christina Wilborn - Business Services Individual Series Event
• Cole Wilborn - Entrepreneurship Participating Written Event
• Jon Paul Escobar and Randy Prukop - Creative Marketing Written Event
• Toni Lira and Meaghan Vassaur - Financial Analysis Team Decision Making Event
• Zach Ramirez - Hotel and Lodging Individual Series Event
• Travis Nunez - Marketing Management Individual Series Event
•Taylor Carmona, Brianne Vincent, and Stephanie Moya - Fashion Merchandising Project
• Claudia Perez and Andriah Scott - Travel and Tourism Team Decision Making Event

All of the Bishop High School DECA students who competed at district advanced to state.
This is the second consecutive year that the Bishop High School DECA has had 100 percent winners who will advance to state competition.
The DECA State Career Development Conference will be held in Fort Worth Feb. 18-21.
“I am very proud of my students this year, especially since we are the only 2-A school in the district, and the other 37 schools with whom we competed are 3-A and larger,” Anita Vera, marketing education teacher said.
