Lady Badgers beat Lady Vaqueros 52-45 in playoffs
The Bishop Lady Badgers beat the San Diego Lady Vaqueros for the fourth time this year, with the latest being a 52-45 victory in the regional quarterfinal round of the playoffs held Monday, Feb. 22 at Moody High School in Corpus Christi.
The Lady Badgers are trying to cash in on a deal made with Bishop Head Coach Sherry Wilson and Assistant Coach Jennifer Unterbrink, which involves dyeing their hair pink and lime green respectively if they win regionals.
Bishop opened the contest with a press defense against a tough San Diego team causing some early turnovers, thus jumpstarting the Lady Badgers on the offensive side.
The Lady Badgers led by as much as 10 points during the game, but the Lady Vaqueros fought hard and countered with their own press defense to keep Bishop within reach.
Bishop would not be denied, taking the 52-45 victory to improve their overall record to 27-8.
Leading the Lady Badgers was Kasey Cavazos with 24 points, followed by Aricela Alvarez with 12 points.
Also contributing to the Bishop win were Brianne Vincent with six points, Rina Rivera with six points and Kelsey Hayes with two points.
The Lady Badgers march on to the regional semifinal round to face the winner of the Poth Lady Pirates/ Hempstead Lady Cats game in Lockhart.
The regional semi-final round game will be played at 6 p.m., Friday, Feb. 26 at Seguin High School in Seguin.
