Mary Ruth Smith Mary Ruth Smith, 87, a longtime resident of Bishop, died Feb. 25, 2010, in Kingsville.

She was born on June 18, 1922, to Tom Ferguson and Edna Busby Ferguson.

In her early years, Smith resided in Ricardo, and later moved to Bishop.

She married Francis Smith in 1945.

Smith was a longtime member of the Church of Christ in Bishop.

She taught primary grades in Bishop for 40 years until her retirement.

Survivors include one son, Mike (Martye) Smith of Cumming, Ga.; brother, Bill (Betty) Ferguson of Edmond, Okla.; sister, Aline Kelly of Ennis; sister-in-law, Anne Ferguson of Corpus Christi; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Visitation took place Feb. 28 at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary in Kingsville.

A funeral service was held March 1 at the Church of Christ in Bishop.

Burial followed at Restland Cemetery in Bishop.
