Wanted: Bishop pioneer families
The Bishop Centennial Committee is currently asking pioneer families of Bishop to participate in a recognition program to be held May 14 at 1 p.m. in the new BCISD High School Auditorium.
The Centennial Committee will honor the families with a commemorative family sign and a family photo for the Kingsville Record and Bishop News, which will also be available for sale.
Families are asked to RSVP for a family photo and sign, minimum of 20, and will need to send the approximate number attending for the photo by email to hollytberry21@aol. com.
Pioneer families are also encouraged to participate in the parade to be held Saturday, May 15 at 10:30 a.m. The commemorative sign can be used with your family/group as you walk; other banners, floats, and cars (if used) would need to be provided by the family.
Family photos will also be published and stored in the Bishop archives.
The following writing is from Leon Henry Bertram, a grandson of an original 1910 Bishop pioneer settler and farmer, Henry Bertram:
“Tell our story! Family, tell us your story.”
So we do, and, in hearing them we find ourselves--here and now.
Many times we have stood before their grave sites. Many times, standing there, we have had thoughts, and, perhaps, have said to ourselves, “You have a wonderful family; you would be proud of us!”
