‘Maintain Your Brain’ was topic of March Community Service Department Program

By Linda Snyder

The Community Service Department met at The Cherry Tree Tea Room on March 17.

Diana Lang, a longtime resident of Kingsville spoke to the group about Alzheimer’s. There is no known test for Alzheimer’s, however, brain scans and other tests can be done to determine its probable presence.

Alzheimer’s is not a normal part of aging. The ways to maintain the brain include physical activity, enough sleep, stop smoking, join social groups, and manage stress levels.

Lang reminded the group to take all medications to the doctor to avoid drug interactions. Anyone wishing to learn more about this disease or to volunteer at the Alzheimer’s Association, call Diana Lang at VistaCare.

The business portion of the meeting, led by Jean Claire Turcotte began. On March 26-27 the South Texas District Convention will be held in Kingsville. The Installation of Officers will be on March 27 at 4 p m. at the Music Club.

Sandy Chisholm will be installed as president of The Woman’s Club of Kingsville, with a reception to follow.

The TFWC annual state convention will take place April 13-16 in Corpus Christi.

Jean Claire asked members to provide her with suggestions for speakers for next year. Give any address, e-mail, or telephone number changes to the caller in April for the new directory.

The speaker for April 21 will be Sandy Rexroat and she will speak on Early South Texas. See you there.
