Seahawk weekend sports notes

basketball selections

Riviera sophomore Heston Van Fleet was the lone Seahawk to receive the first team honor receiving a unanimous vote to the first team selection due to outstanding performances throughout the season.

Second Team All-District selections were Seahawk seniors Ricky Falcon and Brad Jameson.

SOFTBALL

Riviera-Kaufer High School’s varsity softball team kicked off its District 32-2A season by defeating Santa Rosa 9-2 this past Tuesday. Tina Gomez was the winning pitcher and struck out seven batters.

Kiersten Bohanan went two for five from the plate and batted in a pair of runs. Alina Longoria went one for five and brought in a pair of runs. Clarrisa Arguijo went one for five and batted in two runs. Whitley Van Fleet went one for four and brought in a pair of runs.

Also on the team are Lee Ann Miller, Cassie Arguijo, Jody Suarez, Alyssa Alarcon, Tori Alaniz, Michelle Salazar and Sharla Irby.

The Lady Seahawk varsity softball team hosts Donna Idea Academy at 6 p m. on Tuesday. Kaufer’s varsity and junior varsity softball teams host Hebbronville at 5 p m. and 7 p.m. on Thursday.

TRACK

Riviera-Kaufer High School hosted an invitational track and field meet on March 13. The Lady Seahawk varsity team finished seventh overall with 36 points.

Jessica Yaklin won the High Jump event with a height of 4’-0.8”.

Sarah Langbecker came in third in both the 1600-meter Run (with a time of 6:28.99) and the 3200-meter Run (13:55.37). Savannah Stroman placed fifth in both the 3200-meter Run (14:17.52) and the 300-meter Hurdles (59.92).

Brianna McKee finished fourth in the 800-meter Run (2:40.34).

Shelby Szteiter finished sixth in the 100-meter Dash (14.20). Kaitlyn Polly came in sixth in the 200-meter Dash (29.13).

Rochelle Cumberland finished eighth in the Long Jump event with a distance of 14’-0”.

Clarissa Arguijo, Jessica Yaklin, Briana Mckee and Rochelle Cumberland came in fifth in the 1600-meter Relay (4:45.53).

Clarissa Arguijo, Kaitlyn Polly, Jessica Yaklin and Shelby Szteiter came in ninth in the 400-meter Relay (56.36).

Kaufer’s varsity boys track team placed sixth overall with 34 points.

Zach McCollough won the Pole Vault event with a height of 9’-0” and came in second in the High Jump competition (5’-10”).

Ronnie Peralez finished third in the 3200-meter Run (with a time of 11:43.14) and came in fifth in the 1600-meter Run (5:35.21).

Joseph Saavedra finished third in the Shot Put competition with a throw of 40’-08.5”.

Anthony Sheets placed fifth in the 3200-meter Run (12:30.83).

Chris Foster placed tenth in the Triple Jump with a distance of 36’-02”.

Kevin Jimenez, Justin Ramirez, Ceasar Gomez and Zach McCollough finished ninth in the 400-meter Relay. Kaufer’s boys and girls track teams compete in Bishop on Thursday.

BASEBALL

Riviera-Kaufer High School’s varsity and junior varsity baseball teams visit Hebbronville at 5 p m. and 7 p m. on Tuesday. Both teams host Bishop at 5 p m. and 7 p m. on Thursday.
