Over the course of the last several weeks the Kingsville Police Department had received several complaints from citizens regarding narcotics-related activities, Kingsville Police Chief Ricardo Torres said.

“We have heard your concerns about narcotics trafficking within our community and are steadfastly working to address your concerns,” the chief said.

Last week members of the Kingsville Police Department were putting the finishing touches on investigations that led to two search warrants.

On March 24, the police department conducted a search at 218 E. Johnston, which resulted in the seizure of 41.2 grams of cocaine and 12.5 grams of marijuana.

Mark Alvarez, 34, was arrested and charged with manufacture or delivery of a controlled Substance (4 to 200 grams), a first degree felony, and possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, according to a press statement issued by the chief.

Then again, Saturday morning, Kingsville police officers served another search warrant at 1233 E. Ave D.

The investigation resulted in seizure of narcotics as well as property, the chief said.

Mark Mendoza was arrested at the residence and charged with possession of a controlled substance (5.2 grams of cocaine), a first degree felony; possession of marijuana in a Drug Free Zone (3.6 ounces of “hydro”), a state jail felony; and police recovered a stolen Springfield Armory XP .45 caliber handgun that resulted in a charge of possession of a stolen handgun, a third degree felony, the chief said.

The weapon that was recovered had been taken in a burglary last year from a residence in the 1200 block of East Caesar Avenue.

A second weapon was picked up at the residence, but did not show to be stolen as of press time.

In the meantime, Torres said that if anyone has information regarding any type of criminal activity, contact the Kingsville Police Department at 592-4311 or call CrimeStoppers at 592- INFO or 1-800-698-1993.
