VARSITY TENNIS
H.M. King High School’s varsity tennis team had two competitors reach the finals in the boys and girls singles brackets of a tournament held in McAllen last weekend.
Hope Castaneda won the girls singles event and Aaron Gerragauch finished third in the boys division.
“The kids did a great job in McAllen where we have not been in eight or nine years,” Head Coach Ed Gonzales said. “Hope did a great job winning the singles competition – her first major tournament win – amongst some of the top valley teams that were there and Aaron did a great job in taking third place.”
The varsity tennis team competes at the District 31- 4A meet this Wednesday and Thursday at Tuloso-Midway.

“The district tournament is always going to be tough because we have some strong schools in our district whose top priority is tennis,” Gonzales said. “We’re expecting some tough matches but I’m also expecting my players, who are peaking out right now, to do well.”
JUNIOR VARSITY TENNIS
H.M. King High School’s junior varsity tennis team finished third, out of nine teams, at a freshman tournament recently held in Calallen.
Jiselle Moreno and Joseph Galindo won the junior varsity mixed doubles event. The duo previously won a consolation bracket at the Corpus Christi Spring Fling.

Sarah Sedory finished second in girls singles in Calallen.
Prior to that, she won a meet in Tuloso-Midway and placed second at a home tournament.
Matthew Perez came in third in Calallen. Perez has two previous second place finishes at a home tournament and at T.M.
“I was very impressed with the way these kids played that weekend,” Coach Gonzales said. “We’re getting to the end of the season and need to start peaking out and we did that in Calallen. Everyone did what they were supposed to, some made the finals and this was the last tournament of the season before the district tournament (at T.M. on April 1).”
Memorial Middle School’s seventh and eighth grade tennis teams placed third overall at the District 31-4A meet held at Tuloso-Midway last Saturday.

Memorial Middle School’s seventh and eighth grade tennis teams finished in third place at the District 31-4A meet held in Tuloso- Midway last weekend.
Tyler Weatherford finished third in boys singles. Olivia de la Rosa finished fourth in girls singles.
Also competing were Crystal Perez, Tyler Holster, David Perez, Cassandra Rabe, Sara Hannon, Emily Pena and Jesus Rios.
