TRAIN STOP
Union Pacific Railroad’s historic steam locomotive, No. 844, stopped in town Wednesday before
continuing onto Harlingen. The locomotive, built in 1944, is on a 3,500-mile trip from Wyoming to the southern tip
of Texas and back to celebrate the company’s history and heritage. Officials with the Kingsville Convention and
Visitors Bureau persuaded Union Pacific officials to all the train to stop here to help promote ‘Train Days’ May 7-9
in Kingsville. A two-hour arrival delay and rain didn’t dampen the spirits of hundreds of Kingsville residents, school
children and adults alike, from waiting for the train’s arrival.
