Lady Brahma pitcher Constance Brandenburg (second from right, seated) officially declared her intent to play softball for Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi by signing papers at H.M. King High School’s gym this past Wednesday. Sitting in the front row (left to right) are sister Candice, mother Jo Ann, Constance and father Michael. Standing behind the Brandenburgs are Head Coach Nilda Garcia and Athletic Director Andrew Hrncir. Cheered on by friends and family, H.M. King Senior pitcher Constance Bradenburg signed her letter of intent to play softball for Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi next year. Brandenburg’s big moment came on Wednesday morning at H.M. King’s gym.

“I am very excited, playing for a Division I college has been a huge goal for me ever since I was little,” Brandenburg said. “I am very glad that Coach Jake Schumann gave me a chance to do that. I am thinking about probably majoring in kinesiology and looking forward to see how that goes.”

As a four year starter, Brandenburg has been a dream for H.M. King and a nightmare for opponents.

In her freshman season, ‘The Big-C’ said see-youlater to 358 batters, was District 31-4A’s Newcomer of the Year, an All-South Texas selection and received All- State Honorable Mention.

In her sophomore and junior years, Brandenburg was picked as a first team pitcher statewide, in South Texas and in district.

Brandenburg dismissed 193 batters last year as a junior. Despite a hip injury this season, Brandenburg has still managed to silence 97 batters and has an 8-3 district record.

“My hip is doing a lot better,” Brandenburg said. “I am undergoing treatment and trying to take care of myself and hopefully I should be coming back pretty soon.”

Head Coach Nilda Garcia said the hurler has been a huge blessing.

“She has been a great factor, a leader and motivator on this team,” Garcia said. “She may not say much, as a quiet person within herself, but her teammates all look up to her and consistently work together. I think that is what makes Constance a huge part of the person that she is.”

Assistant Principal Ismael Maldonado is another fan of Brandenburg.

“I think the university is very fortunate to be getting Constance because she is one of the top catches in South Texas and probably the entire state,” Maldonado said.

The Lady Brahmas were 9-2, as of Wednesday, and in second place in District 31-4A with their remaining season games coming against Laredo LBJ, Calallen, and Flour Bluff.
