King High School art student Abigail Lerma earned two gold medals at the Visual Arts Scholastic Event State Art Competition held at the University of Houston on April 9-10.

She is an art student in Frances Zamorano’s Art II class. Abigail is the daughter of Elizabeth and James Lerma.

Abigail and Zamorano traveled to compete with over 2,000 other art students from all over Texas.

Abigail advances to the state contest with two photos “Colored Glass” and “Dandelions.”

Both pieces earned a superior rating in Division 2. She was presented with two gold medals.

“Abigail has a natural ability to compose clean simple artistic images. She has expressed that her ideas come from a natural urge to recreate the memories of images and feelings she has of her early childhood. As a Junior next year at H.M. King, Abigail plans to continue her studies of photography by enrolling in a Photography or Electronic Media class,” Zamorano said.
