All Aboard For Train Days Of Kingsville
All aboard for the First Annual Train Days of Kingsville May 7, 8, and 9.
There will be music and plenty of food, activities and displays.
The educational and entertaining Train Days events will be at the Methodist Life Center and at the 1904 Kingsville Train Depot Museum.
Educational speakers will talk trains and community history on Saturday.
Visit the 30-feet by 50-feet model train exhibit and pick up tips on how to start a train collection.
Hear how Kingsville, trains and cattle changed the future of South Texas.
Learn “Safety First” and how to stay out of danger while near railroad tracks.
And what about the future of trains? Ivan Jamie with Union Pacific will present a lesson about the history of Union Pacific and what the future holds for railroading in South Texas.
Get ready for a history lesson of another nature. Come Aboard, a live performance directed by David Deacon, will be presented at 1 p.m. with actors making the early history of Kingsville come alive.
Lisa Neely, Archivist at the King Ranch Museum, will present the early history of the St. Louis, Brownsville and Mexico railroad and how Kingsville came to be all — because of a handshake.
Jay Wiederanders will talk about the architecture and physical construction of the 1904 Kingsville Train Depot.
Kingsville author Kathryn Evans will be signing copies of “Come Aboard” at the 1904 Kingsville Train Depot Museum.
Speakers, exhibits and Come Aboard production will be held in the Methodist Community Life Center at 113 N. 5th St. Talks begin at 10 a m. and continue until 3:30 p m., and are free.
There will be two walking tours departing from the 1904 Kingsville Train Depot Museum.
The “Downtown Walking Tour” on Saturday will leave the depot at 9 a.m. and cover Historic Downtown.
Sunday morning, the “Walk the Rails” tour will depart the 1904 Kingsville Train Depot Museum and head north to the old Ice House (Henrietta Memorial Center) and back.
Old-time Kingsville residents are welcome to join in and share their stories of what the town was like in the good old days.
