By Lucille Thomas Kruse

One of Kingsville’s historical homes is located on West Henrietta. One of Kingsville’s historical homes is located on West Henrietta. In the Old World, all roads lead to Rome. In Kingsville, all roads lead to HEB. From my home on the west side of Kingsville, I choose to go to HEB by way of West Henrietta.

The few blocks from Armstrong Street to the Public Library are part of early Kingsville and they speak with character and history.

There are huge trees arching over the street and most of the yards show nurturing care.

Some of the yards are bursting with flowers in a rainbow of colors. Others have large front porches which were a part of the way of life when the houses were built.

The porches helped cool a house and provided for social neighborhood gatherings. And the porches were where the children spent hot afternoons.

On the front porch of one of the houses on Henrietta there is an inviting swing that is just right for sitting close and sharing a relaxing time out, reading stories to a little one or even sharing a ~ SMOOTHIES BAKED romantic kiss. On five of the homes an American flag is flown.

Porches grace some of the homes down West Henrietta street. Porches grace some of the homes down West Henrietta street. On the corner with its side to Henrietta Street, sits Kingsville’s only Colonial Style Home.

Each of the high two stories has a beautiful porch from which a person could view the spacious grounds with its towering trees and landscaped vegetation.

Four houses on West Henrietta were on the Kingsville Centennial Home Tour.

They and many of the others could tell fascinating stories of our early days in Kingsville. It is a tribute to the residents and to the town to have the older homes preserved and appreciated.
