Stormy weather strikes

By Erika Hernandez

OUT TO PASTURE, BRIEFLY — Many residents discovered fallen trees and broken branches in their yards early Saturday morning, but the most obvious weather causality was the toppled Sirloin Stockade cow. Strong winds caused the cow to lose its balance and collapse about 7:30 a m. Saturday morning. Jim Holt, restaurant owner, took the cow to his ranch in Floresville on Monday for repairs. The cow has been at the restaurant, 1500 South Brahma Blvd., for 20 years. Heavy, early morning scattered showers threatened Bishop’s Centennial Celebration Saturday that kept many away from the Centennial breakfast at Bishop’s City Park, however the weather turned dry as the Centennial parade was winding its way through the city.

According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, winds reached a height of 47 mph Saturday morning, which tipped over the familiar Sirloin Stockade cow located at 1500 S. Brahma Blvd. in Kingsville.

Frank Espinoza with AEP Texas said scattered power outages were reported throughout the area, and AEP began receiving calls as early as 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

Crews addressed most of the outages up until around midnight Saturday and resumed work at 7 a.m. Sunday morning to patch up the few remaining areas with problems.

Early Tuesday morning brought a system of strong showers and thunderstorms which rocked the area, and a few of the storms were severe, dropping heavy rainfall, frequent cloud to ground lightning, and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. Minor flooding throughout the city was reported however nothing too excessive.

The rest of the week is expected to be sunny and clear with no rainfall.
