The Kleberg County Democratic and Republican parties have chosen their candidates who will run in the November general election for constable of Precinct 1.

The executive committee of the county Democratic party held a meeting Monday to select its candidate. There were two interested individuals, Albert Rene Cavazos and Roy Mendez, both Certified Peace Officers and residents of Precinct 1, who sought the party nomination, and after discussion and deliberation by the committee, Cavazos was selected, Alfred L. Isassi, county party chairman, said.

Cavazos will be on the ballot as the Democratic candidate for the vacated post, held for several terms by Democrat Arnold Arguijo, who retired earlier this year due to his health.

Mendez said he will run as an independent candidate.

Brian Vickers will be the Republican nominee, Connie Cashen, county Republican chairman, said Tuesday.
