The Wildcats didn’t win the game, the Badgers handed it to them with a single inning meltdown.

The Badgers continued with their routine pitching rotation, starting senior Joey Olvera on the mound.

Olvera had a nice outing, striking out seven Wildcat batters in the loss.

Unfortunately, the Bishop defense got off to a shaky start, giving up five runs on several errors and three straight hits getting through the infield in the second inning.

“They picked up on our pitching signals, we will have to change it up before game two,” Bishop Badger Head Coach Nathan Borden said.

The Badger offense, looking to chip away at the five point Wildcat advantage, pushed two runs across home plate in the third inning.

Robert Gaona, Dave Gonzalez and Tommy Cavazos led the Badgers at the plate.

The Badgers continued to battle, getting some nice hits to the outfield, but the Wildcats stepped up to snag those potential hits with diving catches.

Neither team was able to score the rest of the game, Wildcats taking the 5-2 victory and a one game advantage over the Badgers.

Bishop has faced this two game must win situation before and look to bounce back on Saturday.

“We have to shake it off, game one is over and we must show up to play in game two to stay alive,” Borden said.

Game two was scheduled for 1:30 p m. on Saturday, May 29 at the San Antonio ISD Sports Complex in San Antonio.

Game three, if needed, will take place 30 minutes after completion of game two at same location.
