Robert Paulson appointed Chief Information Officer at TAMUK

Officials at Texas A&M University-Kingsville have announced the appointment of Robert O. Paulson as Chief Information Officer beginning Tuesday, June 1. He will oversee computer information services.

“The university is delighted to have someone with Mr. Paulson’s experience and expertise heading up our information technology efforts,” said Dr. Rex Gandy, provost. “We are confident that he will keep the university on the cutting edge of technological innovation.”

“I am looking forward to getting to know everyone at Texas A&M-Kingsville,” Paulson said. “There will be new challenges and opportunities. I also am ready to listen to what technology needs exist and being a part of improving technology services for students and employees.”

Paulson said his biggest challenge in his new position will be to learn the current processes and to prioritize technology needs. He is confident, however, that his 25 years of experience in higher education management will be helpful as he tackles his new job. He noted that he is a team builder and likes to work collaboratively.

Paulson comes to Kingsville with over 25 years of experience in information technology in the university setting.

His most recent appointment was vice president of technology services and CIO at State Fair Community College in Missouri where he was a member of the Executive Leadership Committee and a direct report to the president.

He assisted college leadership with direction and implementation of technology solutions to achieve strategic objectives, developed the IT Strategic Plan and Tactical Plans, created a governance committee and built an IT team with the focus on customer service and quality assurance.

Prior to that, he was director of enterprise services at University of the Pacific in California where he directed administrative systems, networking systems, computer operations, telecommunications, web applications, desktop support, help desk and technical support functions.

Paulson also worked at Kutztown University, West Virginia University and the University of Wisconsin- Whitewater.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics with minors in computer science and math from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
