Playhouse of Design helps promotes artwork in Kingsville

For fifty years, Playhouse of Design has played an important role in developing and promoting artwork in Kingsville.
Each year the membership provides a scholarship for a beginning artist at Texas A&M/Kingsville. For many years the members were in charge of “Fiesta de Colores,” the crafts show held each October at J.K. Northway.
At its heighth, as many as 300 vendors would come for a weekend to sell their wares. The Playhouse has also sponsored one or more workshops for artists each year.
The weekend of April 24-26, Playhouse of Design held a workshop in Sellers’ Market on the use of pastels.
Terri Smith of San Antonio led the workshop. On the afternoon of the 26th the members critiqued each others drawings.
On Sunday, May 2, a reception was held at Sellers’ Market where the artists presented their works.
