Filemon V. Esquivel, Sr.
The Lord has called one of his faithful and courageous servants to rest. Filemon V. Esquivel, Sr. was born in Kingsville, Texas on Nov. 22,1928, to the late Urbano Esquivel and Paula Vasquez Esquivel, both residents of Kingsville.
Filemon, better known as Phil, attended St. Martins School, Austin Elementary, Memorial Middle School, and graduated from H.M. King High School with honors.
After graduation, he attended Texas A&l University for about two years while working different jobs to earn money.
He then got accepted to the University of Texas in Austin where he pursued a degree in pharmacy. Phil was initiated into Rho Chi Honor Society while in the College of Pharmacy.
He worked various jobs in Austin to earn his keep. In 1955, he graduated with honors from the University of Texas with a B.S. in Pharmacy. He returned to Kingsville, and worked at a pharmacy in Alice for a short period of time.
His second job as a pharmacist was at Central Drugs in Kingsville, where he met his life long partner, Rosalina “Rosie” Barrera. They were married June 30, 1957, and in 1958 their first son was born followed by five more children.
In 1967, Phil opened his own pharmacy, Angle Pharmacy, in Kingsville with partner, Mr. Henry Foster.
He helped many people in the community with his counseling and medications even when they were unable to pay him.
He also helped many students in need of jobs or experience in the health profession.
Phil was a member of the Industrial Foundation, as well as a lifetime member of several different organizations including; the Kleberg County Draft Board, Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis Club, Saint Martins Catholic Church and Texas Exes Alumni Association.
Phil and Rosie were members of the Mr. and Mrs. Social Club, where they enjoyed the company of many friends.
Phil was an avid supporter of the Brahmas, Javelinas, and the Longhorns.
His family was very important to him; he was a great husband, father, grandfather and greatgrandfather.
He took his children on numerous vacations to many different places. Fishing was one of his favorite pastimes that he enjoyed sharing with his sons and close friends.
He will be dearly missed but will live in many hearts forever.
