Brahma weekend sports notes
H.M. King High School Head Football Coach Robert Wilcox is not bothered by Dave Campbell’s 2010 Texas Football Magazine – released this past week - which has picked the Brahmas to finish last in District 31- 4A this season.
The Bulls are forecasted to conclude their season in the cellar behind Flour Bluff, Calallen, Alice, Corpus Christi Ray, Tuloso-Midway and Corpus Christi Moody.
The magazine’s speculation, however, does not faze Wilcox one bit.
“No, not at all,” Wilcox said. “It’s just a prediction and you still have to play the games. To me predictions are based on history, returning starters and lettermen.”
Wilcox has already rolled up his sleeves and gotten down to work – along with his assistant coaches - by running a summer speed camp.
“This will be a very tough district so we need to improve our speed, first, and then we need to improve our commitment and desire to win,” Wilcox said. “I think we are always in a position to compete but there are a lot of factors that will take effect between now and November. Among those factors are commitment, determination and of course it also comes down to injuries both for us and for the other teams.”
The Brahmas went 4-6 overall and 3-4 in district last season under former Head Coach Andrew Hrncir.
