Autopsy results pending in death of TAMUK prof

Dr. Ralph Bingham Dr. Ralph Bingham Dr. Ralph L. Bingham, long-time math professor and statistician in the Dick and Mary Lewis Kleberg College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Human Sciences, died June 23.

Bingham was pronounced dead at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Williamson Boat Ramp by Kenedy County Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Jana Norrell, according to Chief Deputy Gilbert San Miguel Jr. of the Kenedy County Sheriff’s office.

Early reports indicated Bingham had gone fishing. His body washed up on the Kenedy County shoreline. An autopsy has been performed but the results have not been released to know the exact cause of death, San Miguel said.

Bingham began working at Texas A&I University’s math department in 1972.

Since then, Dr. Bingham worked both as a math professor and a statistician with the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute.

Dr. Bingham, 76, was a native of Montana who earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in math from the University of Montana. He also served in the United States Army Signal Corps.

He earned a doctorate in math from the University of Texas in 1972 and began teaching at Texas A&I that same year.

Dr. Bingham retired from the university last month.
