Benefit concert will honor Charlie Goetsch

Charlie Goetsch Charlie Goetsch Country western singer and actor Tex Ritter might have dreamed of Hillbilly Heaven, but anyone who attends a special musical concert fund-raiser Saturday, July 10, in honor of Kingsville businessman Charlie Goetsch of Goetsch Music, will certainly experience bit of Hillbilly Heaven, if not a trip down Country Music Memory Lane when the Longriders Band is joined by Sandy’s Six Pack musicians, as well as Steve Cavazos and Mezquite, and several other local and area musicians at the Elks Lodge here.

Longriders Band members include Bobby Lawson, Bill McCum- ber, Casey Burr, John Mitchell, Danny Zapata, Steve “SAG” Geary, and Andy Gonzales.

“We’re all doing this for Charlie,” Lawson, who is spearheading the effort to gather musicians to perform at the benefit concert, said.

The concert is from 8 p.m. until midnight. The Elks Lodge is located at 1404 S. Sixth St.

Sandy Alexander, Alan Hausler and Carol Cannon will reunite under the Sandy’s Six Pack banner for one of the musical highlights of the evening.

Steve Cavazos and Mezquite will not only perform, but also will also set up and run the sound system for the entire evening of music.

“These folks wanted to do was much as they could for Charlie,” Lawson said.

Goetsch is recovering from serious head injuries suffered May 23 after Goetsch fell while helping repair the flagpole at the Elks Lodge. Proceeds from the concert will go into a fund to help pay medical and other expenses.

Other performs scheduled to appear at the concert include Gary Hunt, Bud Whittington, Ron Murry, Cesar Silva and Carol and Tyler Cannon.

Among items to be raffled is a quilt from members of Bay Area Fellowship.

“In fact, they’re finishing it up right now,” Lawson said.

The cost of the concert is $10 per person. This is open to the public and for those who cannot make the benefit, but would like to donate, they can send a check payable to BPOE 1926 designated for Charlie Goetsch and mail it to BPOE 1926, 1916 S. 6th Street (Lawson Automotive), Kingsville, Texas 78363.
