Bishop city sales tax collections leap forward, Kingsville falls behind

On Monday, Texas Comptroller Susan Combs sent July sales tax allocations totaling $442.8 million to cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts, up 3.8 percent compared to July 2009, but that’s not the case for Kingsville.

State sales tax revenue in June and local sales tax allocations in July represent sales that occurred in May.

Combs said state sales tax revenue in June totaled $1.61 billion, a 2.2 percent increase compared to June 2009.

However, Kingsville recorded a decline for the same period compared to last year.

Kingsville received $269,681.90 compared to $278,353.47 for a decline of 3.11 percent. The city has collected $2,116,408.23 year to date compared to the same period last year $2,236,355.84 for a year-to-date drop of 5.36 percent.

Bishop’s Centennial Celebration in May left a positive economic impact on the community.

Bishop received $16,437.08 in sales tax compared to $12,505.27 for the same month last year for an increase of 31.44 percent. Year-to-date collections stand at $100,335.13 compared to $101,141.30 last year for a drop of about three-fourths of one percent.

Driscoll collected $3,441.74 compared to $3,192.28

last year for an increase of 7.81 percent. Year-to-date collections stand at $21,720.90 compared to $23,412.81 last year for a drop of 7.22 percent.

Kleberg County collected $103,878.83 in city sales tax compared to $100,264.72 last July for an increase of 3.60 percent. However, the county is still behind 3.99 percent year-to-date compared to last year.

The county’s year-to-date collections stand at $784,353.40 compared to $816,978.13 last year.
